The board of directors is De Lijn’s highest management body. It has the most extensive authority. The board of directors consists of eleven directors (including the chair and vice-chair), four observers and two supervisory directors from the Flemish Government. 

The eleven directors comprise: 

  • four representing the Flemish Region 
  • two representing the cities and municipalities on the proposal of the VVSG 
  • four independent directors, as required by the Flemish government decree on good governance 
  • one on the proposal of SERV (in alternating five-year periods on the proposal of the employers and of the employees)

The four observers comprise:

  • three representing a representative trade union for personnel issues 
  • one on the proposal of SERV (in alternating five-year periods on the proposal of the employees and of the employers) 

The two supervisory directors from the Flemish Government represent the minister with responsibility for De Lijn and the Finance and Budget Minister.

Remit 

  • determining the operating budget
  • appointing top-level personnel
  • determining the powers of the director-general and executives

Oversight 

The minister with responsibility for De Lijn is Ms Lydia Peeters, Flemish Minister of Mobility and Public Works.
Maarten Van Onckelen and Machteld Claerhout are the supervisory directors from the Flemish Government; they oversee the decisions taken by the board of directors.
